Having the largest lake in Japan and one of the most ancient ones around the world, it is said to have been formed about four million years ago. In Omi Hachiman which is situated on the east shore of Lake Biwa, we introduce Aka Konnyaku, a renowned specialty of Shiga Prefecture, and Okishima, home to a thriving freshwater fishing industry, to see the Biwako Hacchin fish that can be caught around this time of year.
